FAQs at The College Moving Crew

At The College Moving Crew, we try to eliminate as many surprises as possible before moving day arrives. You will find below a list of questions that many of our customers have asked us in the past. We want to provide as much clarity before moving day as possible. If you have any additional questions not addressed here, please reach out to us!

How do I Pay?

We accept payment via cash, check, major credit/ debit cards (MasterCard, Visa, etc.), and PayPal. You don't have to pay for your move until the job is complete! When your move is done, the team leader will go over the bill with you and accept payment for the move.

Do I need to rent my own truck?

No, you don't! While many of our customers choose to rent their own moving truck or enclosed trailer, our team would love to provide the vehicle for your move at our standard hourly rate.

If I do rent my own truck, how do I know which size to get?

12 ft truck- perfect for one-bedroom and loft apartments without much to move.

16 ft truck- an excellent option for 1-2 bedroom apartments and smaller one-bedroom houses

22 ft truck- best for three-bedroom apartments or two-bedroom houses

26 ft truck- best for full-sized homes (3-4 bedrooms)

Can CMC's movers drive a truck that I rent?

Unfortunately, liability law prevents our Ankeny movers from driving vehicles rented by our clients. If you're not comfortable driving a large moving truck, let us take care of it! We can provide you with a truck for a flat hourly rate of $40/hr.

How do you keep my items safe?

We apply a moving blanket and plastic wrap to every piece of furniture that we move. While we are carrying your items or transporting them in our truck, you can rest assured that they are in good hands. We also protect your old and new home by placing floor runners (if needed) and applying a cover to the front door and door jam.

Can you move heavy items?

We regularly move upright pianos, treadmills, and large safes, but it is helpful for our team to know about them before moving day so we know what specialized equipment to bring and if we will need an extra set of hands.

Do I need to know precisely where my movers will place my furniture?

Anything you know about the layout of your new home will help our movers tremendously. However, we realize that it is hard to picture how you would like your furniture until you see it in place. Our movers will happily place your furniture in several different locations so you can see where you like it best.

How early in the day can you start?

Our most popular start time is 9:00 AM. Our earliest available start time varies from day to day, but our office will be able to communicate within minutes what time we can start on a particular date.

Will I need to pay extra for moving supplies?

When you book our packing services, we provide all the boxes and other packing supplies you will need. If we are simply helping with your move, we provide the necessary moving blankets, tools, and safety equipment at no extra cost to you.

Do you have the ability to move fragile items?

Yes. We frequently move pictures, mirrors, glass, vases, flowerpots, televisions, and almost anything you might need. Feel free to notify us about particularly fragile items, but our experienced movers have likely moved things like it in the past.

Can you travel out of state?

Currently, we are only licensed to work in Iowa, but we would be happy to load you up in your truck for an out-of-state move.

Can I help load a truck that CMC provides?

Unfortunately, liability law prevents anyone except our employees from entering a truck that we provide. However, there are generally other ways to help on moving day if you are interested.
